Earlier Houses: In 1330 Robert Arden was licensed to crenellate a house on or near the site of the current house; there is no evidence of this 14th century house today.
House & Family History: The current house incorporates pieces of the 17th century house of the Chamberlayne family, but what exists today is virtually a 19th century rebuild of the 17th century house. To the northwest of the current house, much altered, is the surviving 17th century range.
