Notes: Educated at Newbury Grammar School, Turner was articled to Sir George Gilbert Scott in 1874 and later became assistant to John Oldrid Scott and George Gilbert Scott. He began independent practice in 1882 and was in partnership with James Anthony Balfour from 1890 onward. Turner was a important theorist of architectural design and one of the founders of the Society for the Protection of Ancient Buildings. Westbrook is considered his most important work.
