Trematon Hall (Trematon Castle)

  • Earlier Houses: An earlier castle (see "Images" section) was replaced by the current house in the 19th century.

    House & Family History: Trematon Hall is an early 19th century, two-story, stuccoed Georgian villa built within the fortified walls of the remains of the 12th century Trematon Castle. In 2015 the remaining 20 years of the lease on Trematon was put up for sale for £850,000 by the famous garden designing couple of Julian and Isabel Bannerman.

  • Garden & Outbuildings: The baronial gatehouse survives, together with other earlier buildings. Below the keep is an outdoor pool that was built to commemorate an 1812 visit by the Prince Regent, later George IV.

  • John Bernard (J.B.) Burke, published under the title of A Visitation of the Seats and Arms of the Noblemen and Gentlemen of Great Britain and Ireland, among other titles: 2.S. Vol. II, p. 171, 1855.
