Tiverton Castle

  • Built / Designed For: Richard de Redvers

    House & Family History: Tiverton was built by in 1106 by Richard de Redvers at the command of Henry I and enlarged in the 13th and 14th centuries. At one time it was the seat of the medieval earls of Devon and was besieged during the Civil War. Mr. and Mrs. Ivar Campbell purchased Tiverton in 1960; their nephew, Angus Gordon, inherited it in 1985. Four holiday apartments have been created on the Estate.

    Collections: A set of four giltwood armchairs, made in northern Italy circa 1740 and formerly at Tiverton, are today in the collection of The National Gallery of Scotland.
