Notes: Jewish architect was the son of George Basevi, Senior, and the brother-in-law of Isaac D'Israeli. He studied under Sir John Soane in 1811, who held him in great esteem. One of the architects to be invited to propose plans for the House of Commons reconstruction in 1833. Won the 1835 competition for the Fitzwilliam Museum at Cambridge, one of the principal works of the Early Victorian period. By this time, Basevi was well-established as an English architect and was the most accomplished of Soane's students.
