Thorpe Hall

  • Built / Designed For: Sir John Bolle

    House & Family History: Sir John Bolle fought at Cadiz in 1596, where he fell in love with a Spanish lady, an event that became celebrated in the ballad "The Spanish Lady's Love for an Englishman." Her ghost supposedly haunts the house to this day. The red brick Thorpe Hall was listed for sale, together with 20 acres, in July of 2003 for £2.15 million.

  • Garden & Outbuildings: The terraces use stonework from Sir Christopher Wren's St. Mildred in the Poultry, a church in the City of London that was demolished in 1872.
