Built / Designed For: Henry Farrer
House & Family History: Named after an inn that originally stood within the grounds, The Salutation was built in the early 20th century for the Farrer family as a weekend retreat to enjoy the coastal air. The house was one of the first 20th century buildings in England to be Grade I-listed. The Salutation sold for £2.6 million in 2004 and sold again, in December of 2016, for £3.5 million. The 2016 purchasers restored the house and converted it into an upscale restaurant and boutique hotel, which opened in 2017 and closed in 2020.
Comments: Nigel Jones called The Salutation "The perfect house that many in Britain aspire to own."
Garden & Outbuildings: The house is set in a 3.5-acre garden.
