The Hyde

  • Earlier Houses: There was at least one earlier house on, or near, the site of the 18th century house.

    House & Family History: During World War I The Hyde served as a convalescent hospital. In the early 1950s The Hyde School occupied the house.

    Collections: The Hyde housed a large collection of antiquities collected by Thomas-Brand Hollis, including pieces from Pompeii and two sarcophagi (Greek and Roman). In 1857 the collection was bequeathed to the Fitzwilliam Museum, Cambridge, where it remains today.
