The Hewletts

  • House & Family History: There has been a house on this site since Roman times. James Agg, fresh back from India with a fortune, purchased the Hewletts Estate in 1799 and recast the house in the Georgian style in the early 19th century. The ashlar stone façade, added by Agg, contains an 85-foot portico. King George III was a frequent visitor to The Hewletts in the years between 1770 and 1790. In March 2004 the house was listed for sale, together with 45 acres, for £1.95 million.

  • Garden & Outbuildings: The house today sits in 45 acres of parkland, which contains a Grade II-listed Stableblock that was built by James Agg circa 1815.
