House & Family History: Tattershall is a vast, fortified, and moated tower built for Ralph Cromwell, Lord Treasurer of England, from 1433 to 1443. The 1st Marquess Curzon purchased Tattershall, saved it from dereliction, and restored the House between 1911 and 1914; Lord Curzon bequeathed Tattershall to the National Trust upon his death in 1925. The tower contains four great chambers with enormous Gothic fireplaces, tapestries, and brick vaulting.
