Tapeley Park House

  • House & Family History: William Clevland, who later became king of the Banana Islands, grew up at Tapeley. The Estate was acquired by the Christie family of Glyndebourne House in the mid-19th century (John Christie was the founder of the Glyndebourne Opera Festival). Tapeley was famously turned into a hippie commune in the 1970s by Hector Christie. In 2011 Tapeley Park was the subject of a Channel 4 television documentary hosted by hotelier Ruth Watson as part of her "Country House Rescue" series.
