Syston New Hall (Syston Park)

  • Earlier Houses: An earlier manor house, Syston Old Hall, is extant and remains the seat today of the Thorold family.

    Collections: There were sales of the contents in 1884 and 1923. On July 7, 2011 Christie's sold an 1835 Paul Storr vermeil cup that was formerly in the collection at Syston. The vase, in the style of the Warwick Vase, with a lapis base, sold for £32,450. The 10th Baronet, Sir John Hayford Thorold, was a bibliophile who formed an important library at Syston in the early 19th century. Sir John engaged Lewis Vulliamy to build a magnificent, domed Library to house the collection, which included a copy of the Mazarin Bible.
