House & Family History: Descendants of the Ellys family, who lived here for hundreds of years, gave their name to Ellis Island in New York Harbor, through which millions of immigrants were processed. Stoneacre was purchased and restored in the 1920s by Aymer Vallance, an important collector of collector of medieval sculpture and woodwork and biographer of William Morris.
