Stoke Park (Stoke Bruerne Park)

  • Built / Designed For: Sir Francis Crane

House & Family History: The main block of the House, burned in the fire of 1886, was joined to the two existing pavilions by quadrant colonnades. These pavilions, dated 1630, are all that remain today of the Stoke Park. This layout was the first appearance in England of the Palladian plan of a central block linked by quadrant colonnades to wings on either side. The 18th century iron gates from Stoke today guard the entrance to Badminton House.

House Replaced By: There was an earlier house on, or near, the site of the current house.
