St. Radegund's Abbey (Bradsole Abbey) (Bradsole Manor)

  • House & Family History: In 1191, on the land of Bradsole Manor, an abbey dedicated to Radegund, a 6th century AD Merovingian princess, was founded by Premonstratensian Canons. The abbey was dissolved in 1538 as part of the Dissolution of the Monasteries, after which much of the abbey's fabric was used to to help build Sandgate Castle. The site was sold to Simon Edolph in 1590, who converted the refectory building into a private home, which it remains today.
