House & Family History: Built of Bath stone, St. Hubert's supposedly began life as a hunting lodge that was later converted into a proper country house. In the late 19th century St. Hubert's owner, Col. The Hon. William Le Poer-Trench, third son of the 3rd Earl of Clancarty, allegedly made his house available to the Prince of Wales as venue for the prince's sexual liaisons with his many mistresses, including Alice Keppel, Daisy Warwick, and Lillie Langtry. This is all rather ironic as, in 1889, Col. Le Poer-Trench attempted (unsuccessfully) to have the marriage of his 20-year-old son and heir, William Le Poer-Trench, dissolved because he married a London showgirl. He settled instead for disinheriting his eldest son.
