Notes: 19th century architect, born in Liverpool and studied under Richard Lane in Manchester. Waterhouse is particularly noted for his design for the Natural History Museum, London. He was awarded the Royal Gold Medal in 1878 and was President of the Royal Institute of British Architects from 1888 until 1891. Waterhouse's son, Paul Waterhouse, was also an architect. Alfred Waterhouse is buried at Yattendon, Berkshire.
