Shurland Castle

  • Built / Designed For: Sir Thomas Cheyney

House & Family History: Henry VIII and Anne Boleyn were entertained at Shurland Castle on October 7, 1532. By the 19th century only the service wing of once-important medieval house remained; this wing was a roofless for the last half of the 20th century. In 2006 the Spitalfields Trust purchased Shurland and began a long restoration; in 2013, the building, now converted into a residence, was sold into private ownership. In 2018 Shurland was sold again for £2.5 million.
