House & Family History: Sir John Shelton, 21st Lord of the Manor, and his wife, Anne Boleyn (aunt of Queen Anne Boleyn), were charged with the custody of Princess Mary and Princess Elizabeth as children; as such, the princesses very likely visited Shelton Hall. Anne was also the mother of Mary Shelton, mistress of Henry VIII during his marriage to Anne Boleyn. A portrait of Mary Shelton by Hans Holbein is today in the Royal Collection at Windsor Castle. Captain James Shelton sailed in 1610 to America with his uncle, Thomas West, 3rd Baron De La Warr. Thomas Shelton was the first to translate "Don Quixote" into English; his edition was published in London in 1612.
