A circa 1830 steel engraving of the House from "Devon Illustrated"
Built / Designed For: Lady Ashburton
House & Family History: Sandridge was built by John Nash for the widowed Lady Ashburton in the villa rustica style. The House is very much in the style of Nash's earlier Cronkhill at Attingham Park in Shropshire. The Conservatory designed by Nash has been demolished and a new side entrance to the House created in the 1950s. Sandridge has fine, well-preserved interiors. The gray marble Egyptian style fireplace in the Dining Room is notable. The House and Estate were sold in 2002 for £3 million.
Garden & Outbuildings: The Coach House is extant; it was converted into apartments in the 1970s.
