Earlier Houses: Remains of a castle motte extant
House & Family History: Sandford's history goes back to the Norman knight Thomas de Saunford, whose early castle remains can still be seen on the property today. The Sandford family owned the Estate until 1886. The earliest part of the current house, red brick with sandstone dressings, dates from circa 1720, with 19th and 20th century extensions. Sandford was listed for sale in February of 2001.
Garden & Outbuildings: The House has 24 acres of grounds, which includes the scheduled ancient monument of the earlier castle, a 19th century dovecote, and a 6-acre pond, Sandford Pool.
