House & Family History: In the 17th century Samlesbury Hall was rented to handloom weavers; by the early 19th century the house had been converted into an inn, the Bradyll Arms. In 1850 Samlesbury was leased to Mary Ann Harrison, who operated a pioneering a co-educational boarding school here. The house was unoccupied by 1909; in 1924 it was purchased by a developer who intended to demolish Samlesbury Hall and build a housing development on the site. In 1925 a public appeal, conducted by newly-established Samlesbury Hall Trust, raised enough money to buy the house and open it to the public as a historic house museum.
Garden & Outbuildings: A 19th century Grade II-listed gate lodge is extant.
