Rycote House (Ryecot Manor)

  • Built / Designed For: Sir John Heron, treasurer of the chamber to Henry VII and Henry VIII

    House & Family History: Henry VIII and his fifth wife, Catherine Howard, honeymooned here in 1540. In May of 1554 Princess Elizabeth (later Elizabeth I) stayed overnight at Ryecote on her way to her imprisonment at Woodstock Manor. As Queen Elizabeth she visited the house on September 28, 1592. Charles I visited Rycote House in 1625.

    House Replaced By: Circa 1920 the stables were converted into the current Grade II*-listed Rycote House.
