Royal Fort House (Tyndall's Park)

  • Earlier Houses: Windmill Fort, which was demolished in 1655, was on the site of the current house.

    House & Family History: Royal Fort House was built on the site of the Royal Fort, which acquired its name when Prince Rupert of the Rhine (1619-82) was made governor of Bristol during the Civil War. The House is noted for its exuberant Rococo plasterwork interiors. The University of Bristol acquired Fort Royal in 1917.
