House & Family History: Rocksavage was built 1565-68 by Sir John Savage to replace his family's seat of Clifton Hall. In 1617 James I stayed at the house on his way to Halton Castle and Chester. Up the hill, behind the ruins of the house, are the 18th century domestic offices, today called Clifton Hall. Rocksavage was abandoned by 1782.
