Earlier Houses: An old manor house, adjacent to the parish church of St. Mary, was demolished in the 18th century and replaced by the current house.

House & Family History: The new house may have been designed by its owner and builder, Thomas Ryves. In 1781 Ranston was purchased by Peter William Baker, agent to Mr. Portman, who developed the Portman Estate in Marylebone, London. Baker Street was named in honor of Baker.

Garden & Outbuildings: The Park was laid-out in the 1760s and 1770s.
