Built / Designed For: John Edwards

House & Family History: Pye Nest, one of the most prominent 18th century houses in the Halifax area, was designed for John Edwards by Yorkshire's greatest architect, Carr of York. Noted for its dome-lit Entrance Hall, the house was so influential that its design was copied in 1778 by architect Thomas Bradley for his nearby Crow Nest (also demolished). After the last member of the Edwards family died in 1932, Pye Nest, together with 23 acres, was sold; the House was demolished in 1935 and replaced by a housing development.
