Built / Designed For: John Pemberton Heywood Heywood-Lonsdale
House & Family History: In 1940 the British government requisitioned Poundon House as a base for the top-secret Special Operations Executive (SOE), which used the house as a base to train resistance movements in occupied Europe during World War II. Located just 20 miles from the more famous Bletchley Park, the grounds of Poundon Park also housed Station 53C, a clandestine listening station that intercepted German military communications. After the war ended the government maintained an intelligence gathering operation at Poundon Park until the 1970s. The house, which served as an exclusive private retreat for the last quarter of the 20th century, was sold in 2023 for £6 million.
