Collections: The Pitfirrane Goblet, a late 16th century Venetian glass stirrup cup that was formerly in the collection at Pitfirrane Castle, was bequeathed to the National Museums of Scotland by Madeline Halkett in 1951. The goblet, probably made in the Southern Netherlands by immigrant Italian glassblowers, is believed to have been used by James VI in 1603 before he left Dunfermline Palace to travel to London to be crowned James I of England. Also in 1951, Miss Halkett bequeathed "Sir John Halkett of Pitfirrane, 4th Bart., Mary Hamilton, Lady Halkett and their Family" (see "Images" section) to the National Museums. This important 1781 conservation piece by David Allan shows the extended family of the 4th Baronet and his wife.
