Earlier Houses: The 16th century house replaced an earlier manor house of the Perry family.

House & Family History: Around 1744 Thomas Gough of Perry Hall emigrated to Maryland. There, he and his wife, Sophia Gough, daughter of the wealthy Caleb Dorsey of Hockley on the River Severn, had their only child: Harry Dorsey Gough, born January 28, 1745 in Annapolis. Harry became a famous Methodist preacher and founded the town of Perry Hall, Maryland (named after his ancestral English home). Perry Hall, together with 500 acres of land, was sold to the City of Birmingham by the Gough-Calthorpe family in 1929 for new housing. The House was demolished circa 1930; the moat was turned into a boating pond.
