House & Family History: During World War I Penninghame was used as a hospital. In the early 1950s the Prison Service purchased the House and operated it as Penninghame Open Prison until 2000. The House, together with 100 acres, was listed for sale for £2.62 million in 2014.
Garden & Outbuildings: At its height in the mid-19th century, the Penningham Estate stretched to 37,000 acres.
