The house from a 1922 photograph
Earlier Houses: There was an early 15th century house on the site of the current house, parts of which were probably incorporated into the present house.
Built / Designed For: Robert Strode and Elizabeth Hody
House & Family History: During the 1920s Parnham House was a country club; during World War II the house was occupied by the American army. In 1976 John Makepeace purchased Parnham and based his School for Craftsmanship in Wood in the house. In April 2017 a catastrophic fire destroyed Parnham's interiors; all the contents were also lost to the flames. In 2018 Historic England said that the house was "at risk of collapse"; later that year Parnham was listed for sale for £3 million. In 2020 Parnham House was sold for £2.5 million to James Perkins, who plans to restore the house and use it as the base for adventure stays.
