North Seaton Hall

  • House & Family History: In 1930s North Seaton Hall was converted into a migration hostel to train young men to work overseas. After World War II the house was converted for use as council flats.

Collections: The contents were sold in 1933.

  • Garden & Outbuildings: John Dobson very likely designed the estate buildings, including the workers' cottages. Dobson may also have designed the folly called the Summerhouse (aka the Gothic Lodge). By the 1961 the folly was ruinous and considered dangerous, which led the local fire brigade to deliberately set it on fire to use as a training exercise.
