House & Family History: At the demolition of Norfolk House the paneling from the Music Room (one of the earliest examples of a room designed specifically for the performance of music in an English house) and doorways from the Great Room were purchased by the Victoria & Albert Museum and reassembled as period room in the museum. A doorway from the Great Room, designed by Giovanni Battista Borra and executed by Jean-Antoine (John) Cuenot, who did much of the carving at Norfolk House, is today in the collection of the Metropolitan Museum of Art; a companion doorway (see “Images” section) is in the collection of the V&A.
Collections: After 1938 the majority of the contents of Norfolk House were moved to Arundel Castle, the dukes of Norfolk’s country seat.
Garden & Outbuildings: Robert Abraham designed the stables 1819-20.
