Earlier Houses: There was an earlier manor house on the the site that was owned by St. Paul's Cathedral; by 1544 the manor was in the ownership of the crown. In the 1550s Queen Mary sold the the manor house to Sir Edward Waldegrave of West Haddon, Northamptonshire.

Garden & Outbuildings: Capability Brown landscaped the park, which was converted to farmland in 1811.
