The Dower House Garden
The Dower House Garden
The Dower House Garden
House & Family History: Originally an Elizabethan house, Morville today presents itself as a grand classical Georgian house of stone with large central block linked by elegant curved walls to cupola-surmounted pavilions. Every inch the Palladian country house, Morville was created in its current form for Arthur Weaver, and it retains elements of the Elizabethan house at its core, including the polygonal stair turrets which flank the Entrance Facade.
Garden & Outbuildings: The Dower House is famous today as the home of Katherine Swift, the garden designer and writer, who has created a series of elegant gardens around the House. Katherine is also the author of the noted books "The Morville Hours" and "The Morville Year." (We are extremely grateful to Gareth Williams for this history of Morville.)
