The House from an 1851 engraving
House & Family History: Mansion House is the official residence of the lord mayor of the City of London. The current house was built on the sites of St. Mary Woolchurch and the old Stocks Market (both destroyed in the Great Fire). In 1735 a competition was held for the design of the new Mansion House (one of the first competitions in British architecture); the winner was George Dance, Sr., and the House was built to his designs. Mansion House was completely refurbished between 1991 and 1993.
