Notes: Gotch was a Northamptonshire architect who began practicing in Kettering in 1879; by 1887 the practice was called Gotch & Saunders (in partnership with Charles Saunders). Saunders and Gotch retired from the firm in 1938. Amazingly enough, the practice survives today as GSSArchitecture (Gotch, Saunders & Surridge). Gotch, an authority on Elizabethan and Jacobean architecture, was vice president of the Royal Institute of British Architects between 1914 and 1919 and president 1923-25. His brother was the Pre-Raphaelite painter and illustrator Thomas Cooper Gotch.
