Loughcrew House

  • Earlier Houses: Part of the foundations of the first Loughcrew House, a classic Irish longhouse dating from 1673, can be seen inside the garden. This first house was the home of one of Ireland's newest saints, St. Oliver Plunkett.

House & Family History: The Naper family today make their home in the former Orangery. The restored gardens are open to the public and there is a noted opera festival, Loughcrew Garden Opera, founded in 2000, that is performed in the garden. The house's Greek Ionic portico today stands as an eyecatcher, or folly, in the grounds.

  • Garden & Outbuildings: At its height in the early 19th century the Loughcrew Estate stood at 180,000 acres.

Chapel & Church: The family church stands in the grounds of Loughcrew Gardens.
