Leybourne Grange

  • Earlier Houses: An earlier Caroline house was demolished the late 1840s and replaced by the current Italianate style villa.

House & Family History: Between 1936 and 1996 the house served as the administrative offices for Leybourne Mental Hospital. After the closure of the hospital, the 270-acre estate, complete with many hospital buildings, remained abandoned until the early 21st century, when it was sold to a property developer. The developer demolished all the ancillary former hospital buildings and built Leybourne Chase, a housing development, on the site. The 19th century house was converted into flats.
