    House & Family History: In 1802, upon his mother's death, Sir Charles Burrell inherited the Knepp Estate. In 1807 Sir Charles was permitted, by an Act of Parliament, to sell The Deepdene (then an entailed part of the Knepp Estate) to Sir Thomas Hope. Knepp Castle burned in 1904 and was rebuilt.
