Kinlochmoidart House

  • Earlier Houses: The current house sits on the site of an earlier house that was burned by the duke of Cumberland circa 1746.

Built / Designed For: Robert Stewart

House & Family History: Bonnie Prince Charlie (Charles Edward Stuart) stayed at the earlier Kinlochmoidart House as the guest of MacDonald family in August 1745. That house was burned soon after by the Duke of Cumberland's troops (probably because the family hosted the prince). A pediment above the main entrance of the current house commemorates the prince's stay.
