King's Nympton Park (New Place)

  • Earlier Houses: An earlier manor was demolished in the 1740s when the current house was built.

    House & Family History: Francis Cartwright based his design for Kings Nympton (originally called New Place) on Roger Morris's Marble Hill House, which it closely resembles.

  • Garden & Outbuildings: The Park was enclosed by Sir Lewis Pollard in the late 15th century. At the time the new Palladian house was built in the mid-18th century terraced walks were installed around the new house. In the 19th century the Park was converted to agricultural use.
