House & Family History: Sir Henri Deterding, founder and chairman of Royal Dutch Shell Oil Company, purchased Kelling circa 1902 and engaged engaged Edward Maufe to build him a new Tudor style house on the estate. Constructed of bricks imported from Holland, Kelling was Maufe's first country house.
