Ickwell Bury

  • Earlier Houses: The old Tudor house burned down in 1937.

    House & Family History: The old Ickwell Bury was originally owned by the Priory of St. John of Jerusalem; in 1543, during the Dissolution of the Monasteries, the manor was granted to John Barnardiston. Between 1978 and 2006 the new Ickwell Bury housed the Yoga for Health Foundation.

    House Replaced By: A new house was built in 1940 by the Wells family.

    Park Listed: Grade II

  • Past Seat / Home of: SEATED AT TUDOR HOUSE: John Barnardiston, 16th century. John Harvey, 17th century; Harvey family here until 1903. SEATED AT 20TH CENTURY HOUSE: Wells family, 1940-78.
