Houston House

  • House & Family History: Houston House is today primarily an 18th and 19th century building, with bits of the earlier 11th century castle incorporated unto it. Until the mid-18th century the house was the seat of the Houston family, who sold up to the Glasgow tobacco baron Alexander Speirs in 1740; his descendants lived here until 1959. That year Houston House became the property of Major David Crichton Maitland; the Maitland family made the house their seat until 1995, when it was divided into flats.
