Notes: Shaw was a 19th century Saddleworth, Lancashire, architect. He is most well-known today for his unwitting discovery of the marriage bed of Henry VII and Elizabeth of York. Shaw stripped the bed of its original paint (he never knew what he had discovered) and truncated the front crest of the royal arms, which he inserted above a door in his house, St. Chad’s House, Uppermill. The arms are today in the Uppermill Library, while the bed itself is today in the collection of Hever Castle. Though he didn't know exactly what he had stumbled upon, Shaw knew it was important; to that end, he forged reproductions of the bed, which he sold as medieval originals to a number of noble clients.
