Earlier Houses: The old manor house, Harefield Place, was replaced as the seat of the Newdigate family in the 1750s, when Harefield House, was erected (Harefield Place was demolished in 1813).

House & Family History: During World War I Harefield House served as an Australian auxiliary hospital. The noted architectural writer Avray Tipping died at Harefield on November 16, 1933. In 1937 the House was purchased by the Ministry of Defence. In the 1980s Harefield was redeveloped as office space.
