The house from a circa 1905 postcard
Earlier Houses: There was an earlier castle, Pitcur, near the site of the current house.
House & Family History: In 1879 the 11th Marquess of Huntly sold the Hallyburton Estate to Graham Menzies for £235,000 (approximately £95 million in 2019 values using the labour value commodity index). Menzies purchased the estate using the fortune he'd made in distilling (he founded the Caledonian Distillery in Edinburgh in 1855; though the distillery closed in 1988, the Cally brand lives on through Diageo, who market the scotch today).
Garden & Outbuildings: The house today sits within an estate of 5,000 acres.
