Built / Designed For: Robert Seaton
House & Family History: Grimethorpe is a red brick hosue of circa 1670 with ashlar quoins and additions of the 18th, 19th, and 20th centuries. It was purchased by the Coal Board, which applied for consent to demolish; this was refused and the House was subsequently upgraded from Grade II to II* and later sold. The next owners had plans to make Grimethorpe a nursing home; this planned conversion never occurred and the House was sold again, but, by this time, it had been considerably vandalized. Grimethorpe was virtually a shell when listed on SAVE Britain's Heritage's Buildings at Risk Register in February of 2001.
